Lutheran Confessions

The Lutheran Confessions, also called the Book of Concord, contain important texts that summarize Lutheran beliefs. Specifically, it includes the three ecumenical creeds, the Augsburg Confession, the Defense of the Augsburg Confession, the Large and Small Catechisms, the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope, the Epitome of the Formula of Concord (which is like a summary), and the Solid Declaration of the Formula of Concord (which expands on the Epitome).

And the Lutheran Confessions are often mind-blowingly amazing! You can download the free text here or the “Readers’ Edition” is really good!

Lutheran church workers typically swear to uphold the Book of Concord at their first placement, but you don’t have to be over 20 before you start reading these texts. Middle school or junior high is a great time to introduce kids to Luther’s Large Catechism!
