Catechesis

Catechesis can be understood in a few different ways. First, there’s often a class on Luther’s Small Catechism prior to confirmation or receiving the Lord’s Supper the first time. Second, there’s oral instruction in general, though often of a religious nature. Third, there’s the question and answer format that many of us Lutherans just continue to love.

At any rate, many of us don’t want our children to only read the catechism during confirmation years! We want Luther’s Small Catechism (and his large one, too!) to shape their lives, year after year. So whatever you’re looking for, here are catechesis resources we have compiled thus far. These are often in addition to confirmation curriculum books published by Lutheran publishing houses.

Plus, let’s note Luther’s six catechetical hymns: “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581), “We All Believe in One True God” (LSB 954), “Our Father, Who from Heaven Above” (LSB 766), “To Jordan Came the Christ, Our Lord” (LSB 406), “From Depths of Woe I Cry to Thee” (LSB 607), and “Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Savior” (LSB 627).
